Desborough Sailing Club is a friendly, family-focused dinghy sailing club based on a beautiful stretch of the River Thames at Shepperton. Set beside broad riverside lawns with views across the water, the club offers year-round sailing, racing, leisure sailing and social events in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
Whether you’re an experienced sailor, returning to the water after a break, or completely new to sailing, Desborough is a place where you can get involved, learn, race, relax and enjoy life by the river. Alongside dinghy racing and cruising, members also enjoy family sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, picnics, barbecues and a busy social calendar.
With easy access to the water, good facilities, a modern clubhouse and a supportive community, Desborough Sailing Club is a lovely place to sail, meet people and make the most of the Thames.
Joining Desborough
Desborough is a vibrant and welcoming club, and we are keen to continue to develop and grow our membership. Before you apply to join we recommend coming down for a visit and meeting a few of us. There are always people around who are willing to talk to you, and perhaps take you out on the water (it’s best to email and arrange this in advance).
You don’t need your own boat to join Desborough as the club has boats available for members to use. There are several types of dinghy available and 24 boats in all. For details and conditions please click here

Please note that as a sailing club we do not accept members wishing to bring motor boats, or allow fishing from our banks and jetties.
How to Find Us
The Club is situated on the North bank of the Thames at Shepperton, Middlesex.
From Chertsey Bridge on the B375 (Chertsey Road / Renfree Way), turn right onto the OLD Chertsey Road (now bypassed), then first right into Ferry Lane – marked “to the River.”
Or, if coming along the B375 from the Sunbury direction, turn left into Church Road at the roundabout at the southern end of Shepperton High Street (war memorial) and follow through the village until you find Ferry Lane on the left.
About 200 metres along Ferry Lane, over a small hump in the road, the entrance to the Club is just on the left. Please take care on this single track road, keep very slow and sound your horn at the first blind left bend. Through the second gate into the car park and the club house is straight ahead across the dinghy park.

Class Captains are elected each year at the AGM to act as a point of contact for the class, to coordinate any class specific training, activities and events and to represent their class at the quarterly Sailing Committee.
